Installing multiple operating systems on a VMWare Workstation or VirtualBox for use on a single computer is no stranger to you, right?
Especially for students in programming, network administration, … these software to create virtual computers is even more important, because virtual computers will serve you a lot of things in the learning process and work.
Most of you are used to creating virtual machines on Windows operating systems, but as you can see, many programmers and students have chosen Apple's Macbook for their learning and work instead. for Windows Laptop.
#first. Introducing VMWare Fusion
Surely many readers here are not new to the extremely professional virtual machine creation software called VMWare Workstation, right?
I also had a long time fighting with her, which is to install Windows 7, 8, 8.1, and also Ubuntu, CentOS, Debian … again. And finally, install macOS on VMWare before actually switching to use Macbook as it is now.
Looking at the names you probably already know, Fusion and Workstation are two famous virtual machine software developed by VMWare, so Fusion inherits all the most advanced technology of VMWare equipped on. Workstation.
The functions and features of these 2 software are similar, except that VMWare Fusion for macOS, and VMWare Workstation only supports Windows. That's all 🙂
You may not know, on macOS, virtual machine creation software is no less abundant than Windows, we have the extremely famous Parallels, Oracle's Virtualbox, or even Microsoft VirtualPC, … but I still The choice of VMWare Fusion is for the following reasons:
// This comparison does not have Parallels because it is a fairly expensive paid software!
- VMWare Fusion is easy to use: Yes, if you are familiar with VMWare Workstation on Windows, I think you will not have much trouble switching to using Fusion on macOS.
- Quick VMWare Fusion: Since on hand Oracle Corp, VirtualBox has degraded quite a lot, the same operating system, the same amount of resources, and the same computer, of course, VMWare WorkStation and Fusion will bring a higher level of performance than the competition.
- Stable VMWare Fusion: I have experienced this a few times, on VirtualBox I have encountered a lot of silly errors but since I switched to VMWare Fusion / Workstation, it is much less, even not. It shows that the software of VMWare is extremely stable.
#2. What to prepare?
Then, before entering the installation process, you need to prepare the .ISO file of Windows 10 or the operating system you want to install, you can download the original Windows installer here or here!
Next is the VMWare Fusion software, make sure you have to install this software on your Macbook to follow this guide.
Because this is a paid software, you only have to buy the copyright, or go online to find the copyright to be shared with the community only 😛
You download the trial version here Please !
# 3. Install Windows 10 on Apple computers with VMWare Fusion
+ Step 1: You open up VMWare Fusion on your computer, you can use Launchpad or Search Spotlight to open it. Interface as shown below.
Note: In addition to creating a virtual machine according to available settings and specific settings, Fusion has some special features of macOS such as installing Windows 10 from Bootcamp, installing macOS to Fusion using partition data.
Backup(macOS Recovery partitions).
But in this article, we will only install Windows 10 from the existing .ISO file only.
In the window
Select the Installation Method below you keep the options
Install from disc or image => and then press
Continue to start the virtual machine creation process.
+ Step 2: Here, open it
Finder go to => and navigate to the folder containing ISO file Windows 10 has been prepared before.
Here I use the ISO file of Windows 10 1909 32-bit version => then you hold and drag it to the window of
VMWare Fusion is the software that will identify itself. Done press
Continue to the next step.
+ Step 3: Next, you will be selected standard UEFI good Legacy BIOS for my virtual machine, it is recommended to use UEFI.
If you still do not know what UEFI with Legacy BIOS is, you can find out the details through this article!
In addition, you can also enable the feature
Secure Boot of UEFI by checking the line
UEFI Secure Boot anymore – of course I haven't used it => then press
Continue to continue.
+ Step 4: Finally, VMWare Fusion will display an overview of the configuration that has been set for this virtual machine => click

This is where you can set up everything about this virtual machine, such as virtual machine name, disk space, network configuration, graphics settings, RAM, CPU, USB, Printer … in general is everything. How to adjust then I probably do not need anymore because it is too intuitive and simple already.
Only note the RAM for you is that if your computer has 8 GB of RAM, you should only leave a maximum of 3GB RAM for virtual computers.
In case if you have created this window does not appear, or anytime you want to open it => you just need to click on the wrench as I drew the arrow in the image.
+ Step 6: After setting in the window
Settings done, turn it off and start the virtual machine by clicking directly on the black screen, or select
Virtual Machines =>
Start macOS menu bar.
Go to step
Press any key to boot from CD or DVD… you must press any key on the keyboard to boot into the Windows 10 installation, otherwise it will get an error

And if you encounter this error, you just need to reboot the virtual machine and then press any key to boot.
Wait a moment for the virtual machine to boot into the Windows 10 installer and you will see this familiar Windows 10 installation screen.
The process of installing Windows 10 on a virtual machine I will not guide anymore because it is no different from installing on a real machine: Also choose the Windows version, agree to terms, format the hard drive, … in general, it is very simple and Basically, you guys can do it yourself. If you do not know, you can review the article step by step installing Windows 10!
Installation time is also very fast because most of the MacBook, iMac later use high-end SSD rather than HDD so you do not have to worry about this issue.
+ Step 7: And this is the result after I installed Windows 10 on the macOS VMWare Fusion virtual machine.
+ Step 8: Install VMWare Tools for the virtual machine
But as you know, if you leave this as default, it is really not convenient at all, because it may be very laggy, unable to stretch the virtual machine window to full screen, moreover you also Can't share files between real and virtual machines with each other …
So, next we have to install
VMWare Tools for VMWare Fusion virtual machine.
Perform: You open the virtual machine => then hover outside the virtual machine => and then click
Virtual Machines on the bar
Menubar of macOS => and select the line
Install VMWare Tools as usual.
Immediately at the window of the virtual machine is running, a pop-up will appear asking you to click
Yes to confirm the installation of VMWare Tools in this virtual machine. You just press
Yes to agree.
You wait a bit there will be an installation window of
VMWare Tools as the picture below appears.
If not, then you can enter
This PC => Select
DVD Drive as I did and then run the file
setup64.exe corresponding to Windows 32bit or 64bit operating system.
The installation process is out of the instructions already, it's so simple, you just press
Next repeatedly => and then wait for the software to be installed. After installation, remember to reboot the virtual machine to operate most stable!
Now you can use Windows 10 on macOS smoothly like a real Windows 10 computer. And when you do not use or want to delete an operating system on a virtual machine, do the following:
# 4. How to remove the operating system from VMWare Fusion virtual machine?
Perform: Click on the icon of VMWare Fusion on the Menubar => bar and select
Virtual Machine Library to open the management page for the virtual machines you have created.
Here, you just need to right click on any virtual machine name and you will get all options such as: Start, Delete, Rename, Create Snapshot backup, Upload to server, create copy, ….
Other parts are not said, and if you want to delete just click on the line
Delete and at the end end choose
Move to trash to delete the entire file of this virtual machine on your computer.
As I said at the beginning of the article, the VMWare Fusion software on Macbook is quite similar to the VMWare Workstation software on Windows, so you can refer to this article to be able to apply some good tips for Fusion:
# 5. Epilogue
So I have finished the tutorial for you How to create virtual computers on macOS using VMWare Fusion software, as well Install Windows 10 on VMWare Fusion virtual computer then ha.
I will still try to earn the copyright for other virtual machine software on macOS to have all the instructions for you.
But I think using the Fusion software as instructed above is also very OK, if you see this article or do not forget to share it for everyone to know. Good luck !
