The combined trading volume of bitcoin (BTC) and ether (ETH) futures has grown by more than $32 trillion in 2021, according to The Block Research.
$32 trillion – based on data as of Dec. 27 – is a significant 338% increase over 2020 trading volume. Last year, the total bitcoin and ether futures trading volume was only about 7 trillion dollars.
This year, May has been the month of highest trading volume for both bitcoin and ether futures, with a combined value of more than $4 trillion.
Binance remains the market leader for both bitcoin and ether futures markets.

2021 is also a record year for spot crypto trading volumes. Centralized crypto exchanges (CEX) reported over $14 trillion worth of trading volumes in 2021, while decentralized exchanges (DEXs) also recorded worth of trading volumes. worth more than $1 trillion.

Also according to data from The Block Research, the combined trading volume of bitcoin and ether options contracts has increased by 443% in 2021.

Last year, bitcoin and ether options recorded just $71 billion in volume.
Deribit remains the largest bitcoin and ether options trading platform, which currently holds more than 90% share of the entire market – figures as of Dec. 27.
