Binance is not allowed to operate in Malta, so where is the headquarters of the exchange? | Money Blog

The Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA) claims it has never approved the world's largest cryptocurrency exchange Binance to operate in the country.

On February 21, MFSA issued the above public statement. The agency told the media that Binance is not a crypto company based in Malta. This exchange may be out of regulatory control.

Earlier, when a number of major newspapers in Malta such as Malta Today wrote that Binance was a Malta-run cryptocurrency business, MFSA itself made a similar statement:

Following a media report referring to Binance as a Malta-based cryptocurrency company, the Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA) reiterated that Binance was not authorized by MFSA to operate. in the field of cryptocurrencies and therefore, is not subject to the scrutiny under MFSA.

Binance has yet to respond to the statement.

Reportedly, after having to leave Japan under the pressure of regulators, Binance announced that it would open an office in Malta. At the time, Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao said that he was invited by the Malta government to consider a new bill that would benefit crypto businesses.

In September 2018, a fintech branch of the Malta Stock Exchange signed a memorandum of understanding with Binance to jointly launch a cryptocurrency exchange.

Where is Binance's headquarters?

The question is actually not new, but so far, no one has the correct answer.

Late last year, several reports of a police raid on an alleged Binance office in China led the crypto community to bewildered, followed by the entire market in red.

At that time, Binance denied the reports, stating:

Team Binance is present worldwide, working in a decentralized style, present anytime, anywhere in the world.

Binance doesn't have a permanent office in Shanghai or China, so there's no way the police raided any of our offices and closed them.

This news came after a sudden technical incident on Binance on February 19. According to the exchange's announcement, Binance suspended most of its trading operations due to unexpected maintenance.
